About Our Trainee and Apprenticeship Opportunities

Every career starts somewhere. At Maritime, our trainee and apprenticeship opportunities are a chance to step into a fast-moving industry, learn from experienced teams, and begin building a rewarding future. Whether you’re joining us in road, rail, terminals, or another area of the business, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience and real insight into how the UK supply chain operates, as part of the next generation of people keeping trade moving across the country.

As a trainee or apprentice at Maritime, you could find yourself liaising with major shipping lines and retailers as part of a dedicated customer service team, maximising train capacity within a busy rail terminal, or booking containers in and out of a container depot, while learning the high standards, pace, and attention to detail needed to keep a national integrated logistics operation running smoothly.

Along the way, you’ll work closely with experienced colleagues and receive the guidance and mentoring needed to give you the best possible start to your career with us.

Our people, their journey

operations supervisor

‘Maritime gave me my start as a young trainee operator in Tilbury more than 15 years ago and, over time, gave me the opportunity to learn, grow in confidence and take on more responsibility. Since then, I’ve progressed through the business into my current role as Operations Supervisor, working with a fantastic team at one of the UK’s largest container ports. It means a great deal to be able to pass on that knowledge and experience to others coming through the business, just as others once did for me.’

IT SUPPORT ENGINEER

‘Completing my apprenticeship with Maritime gave me a really strong foundation in IT. It allowed me to gain recognised qualifications on the job, build technical knowledge, and develop the skillset I now use every day in my role, from diagnosing faults and resolving software issues to maintaining the systems and equipment that thousands of people across the business rely on.’

DEVELOPER

‘My apprenticeship with Maritime has given me far more than a route into systems development. From early on, I’ve been trusted to get involved in important projects and supported by my team as I’ve built my skills. That’s helped me grow in confidence, take on more responsibility, and develop in my role. What I’ve enjoyed most is seeing systems I’ve helped develop become central to the way the business runs, helping to improve efficiency across our operations, from our Container Booking System now live across all our terminals, to our fleet management system. I’d recommend an apprenticeship to anyone interested in learning on the job, gaining valuable work experience, and having a recognised qualification under your belt.’
